Amazon Updates Wish List Rules: What You Need to Know
Amazon has announced a significant update to its Wish List policy that will take effect on March 25, 2026. The change impacts how gifts from third-party sellers are handled particularly when it comes to sharing shipping information.
What’s Changing?
Previously, users could restrict purchases on their Wish Lists to items sold directly by Amazon. This setting allowed people to avoid third-party sellers fulfilling orders.
Starting March 25, that option will no longer be available.
Gift buyers will be able to purchase items from third-party sellers listed on someone’s Wish List. To complete delivery, Amazon will share the recipient’s shipping address with the seller and delivery partners.
Will Buyers See Your Address?
According to Amazon’s notice to users, when gifts are purchased from public or shared lists, the shipping address may be visible to sellers and carriers handling the order. During the delivery process, that address could also appear in tracking updates provided to the buyer.
While some address-sharing during fulfillment is not new, the key difference now is that users can no longer block third-party sellers from fulfilling Wish List purchases.
Why This Matters
Wish Lists are widely used by online creators including streamers, influencers, and independent content creators as a way for fans to send gifts. For individuals who rely on privacy for personal safety, the removal of seller restrictions has raised concerns about potential exposure of home addresses.
Some creators have already encouraged others to review their privacy settings or consider alternative gifting platforms that prioritize anonymity.
How to Protect Your Privacy
Amazon recommends several steps to reduce risks:
-
Use a P.O. Box or non-residential address for public Wish Lists.
-
Adjust privacy settings to “Private” or “Shared” instead of “Public” to control who can view your list.
-
Remove your shipping address from your Wish List entirely by selecting “None” in the shipping address field. In this case, buyers would need to contact you directly for delivery details.
Reviewing your settings before March 25 is a proactive way to ensure your personal information remains protected.
If you use Amazon Wish Lists for gifting or receiving fan support, now is a good time to double-check your privacy setup and decide what level of visibility works best for you.
